Less Germs, More Hugs:

30 underrated, delightful perks of working from home

Firefly’s entire internal team works remotely.

We live in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, West Virginia ,and Georgia.

Many companies are calling workers back in. But for us, remote work really works!

In a recent daily check-in video meeting, some people happened to comment on a few things that they LOVE about working from home. We continued the conversation in Microsoft Teams, and it was so much fun that we decided to share everyone’s insights with the world!

The question was: In your experience, what are some underrated perks of working from home?

💗 Here are our heartfelt answers:

No more driving white-knuckled, fearing for your life, trying to get to work (or back home) in a blizzard.

Need a repairman to come over at 10am on a Tuesday? No problem! (Even if they don’t get there until 1:30pm!)

I have never been LESS sick, because I’m not in an office with people, sharing their germs. 🤒

My favorite snacks are always available and I have the office pot of coffee all to myself.

I’d be happy to never have to use a public bathroom for the rest of my life! A lofty goal, but more achievable when you work from home. This benefit is not to be underestimated.

Being able to get cleaning done on your lunch break so you don’t have to do it on the weekend!

⌛You save TONS of time and money not having to commute. It really adds up!

Giving hugs to my kids and pets during the day.

I get to participate in the excitement when kids come home from school each day.

Being able to control the temperature of your own office is sooo nice! (I used to FREEZE in an office full of people who were always hot. I ran my little heater under my desk all summer.)

Smelling dinner in the crockpot all day!

My office commute is just a short walk down the hall! (And I can commute in bare feet!) 👣

🌡️ On days that I don’t feel well, I can still work (and not use a PTO day) – and I don’t make anyone else sick.

I get to see my little granddaughters when they drop by to visit.

Working with a great team – but also not being interrupted during the day by chit chat of office workers. (Less distractions = more focus.)

Being within 5 minutes of my daughters’ schools in case they need me.

🌴☀️Being able to work from Florida in the winter! ❄️❄️

Having the time to drive my daughter to school in the morning because I don’t have to cross town afterward to get to work.

Having no commute makes the morning less rushed.

I get to hang with my dogs while I work!🐾

Bronco loves the snow. (His owner is safe and cozy at home.)

💵 Saving a LOT of money by not going out to lunch all the time.

You get to wear comfortable clothes. And you can wear slippers all day if you want!

We’re always there for our customers because our office never shuts down due to bad weather.

You can bring your deliveries into the house right away, so porch-pirates cant steal them.

I don’t have to go outside at all on days when its so cold the air hurts your face. 🥶And there’s no ice to scrape off the car.

Todays combined commuting miles for everyone? Zero.

I never run into a colleague in the bathroom. 😳

Easier on my family’s routines. (I can walk my daughter to the bus stop in the morning.)

During the summer, I can eat lunch with my kids.

My friends wish they had my job!

Actual view of our team-member, Jaime. (Wow!)

Our list was fun to make but its also incomplete.

If you worked here, you’d be able to add some of your favorites too!
